VOLUNTEER
TODAY!

Give up some time for a great time and cause by being a Pride volunteer with Bourne Free. If you want to take an active role in our events, we’re now accepting new volunteers - Keep reading below to learn more.

How you can support us.

Without the help and support of volunteers, Bourne Free would not be possible. Every year a great team of volunteers give up their time to put on Bournemouth Pride weekend, but we are always on the lookout for new recruits. From helping with setting up & clearing down the event to marshalling the parade there is something for everyone. If you are unable to commit to Pride weekend we also have a number of other events during the year, prior to or post pride including a Dog Show, Adult Panto and many more.

New to Volunteering?

All our new volunteers are signed up to our ‘Buddy’ scheme, where you will work with a volunteer that has helped at Bourne Free previously. So you will always have someone nearby that can help out if you need it.

Trustee Support Committee Team

Are you community spirited or have you volunteered with Bourne Free before? Do you feel you have time to help and support our local LGBTQIA+ community or just have more of a say in Bourne Free? Then why not join our Trustee Support Committee team.

Corporate Volunteering

Various local and national businesses have been supporting their employees to volunteer for Bourne Free for many years. If your workplace would be interested in providing you with a similar incentive please contact us to discover the reciprocal benefits.

FAQS.

Is volunteering just for Pride?

No, we have events throughout the year from Drag Bingo, Dog Show and Adult Panto - and everything in between. Our volunteers are an extension of the BF family - we couldn’t do any of our events without you!

Can I volunteer as a corporate group?

Absolutely, we have several companies who do this throughout the year. For example, since 2015 Barclays Bank has incentivised over 20 employees to volunteer during normal working hours every year and Ages sponsor and run the education tent. Without their and other businesses support, people can’t always find the time to volunteer for the times we require. If your workplace would be interested in providing you with a similar incentive please contact us to discover the reciprocal benefits.

How will I know what to do when I volunteer?

All our new volunteers are signed up to our ‘Buddy’ scheme, where you will work with a volunteer that has helped at Bourne Free previously. So you will always have someone nearby that can help out if you need it.

We offer full training to all our volunteers. Everyone’s safety is paramount and our volunteers are pinnacle in the smooth running of our event. We run a mandatory Health & Safety Briefing & Emergency Evacuation Procedure Meeting prior to our event.

Can I bring my own food/drink when I volunteer at Pride?

You are more than welcome to bring your own food/non-alcoholic drink, although there is free water on site for everyone, we will also provide you with a food & drink voucher to use at one of the catering options on site.

Do I need to buy a ticket to volunteer at Pride?

If you volunteer for over 6 hours, you will be given a free ticket to enjoy the rest of the weekend. You need to purchase your ticket, once you have done 6 hours volunteering we will refund you the cost of your ticket.

What jobs do volunteers do at Pride?

You could be helping with setting up, taking down, front desk, back stage, the bar, picking up litter, manning the exit gates and/or generally being on hand to answer any questions people may have.
